Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has officially commissioned a newly completed dining hall for Aflao Senior High School at Agblekpui in the Ketu South Municipality on Monday, October 27, 2025.
The new facility, which stands as one of the flagship educational projects initiated under the late President Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, marks a major step in improving infrastructure and learning conditions at the school.
In her address, Hon. Gomashie described the project as a continuation of the NDC government’s long-standing commitment to education, emphasizing that investing in students’ welfare remains central to national development.
“Education is the key to progress, and this dining hall represents our shared commitment to the vision of the late Prof. Atta Mills, who believed every Ghanaian child deserves access to quality education and decent learning facilities,” she said.
The newly commissioned dining hall has been fully furnished with durable, concrete-molded furniture designed to ensure longevity and reduce maintenance costs. Hon. Gomashie explained that this decision was informed by concerns raised by school authorities about the frequent damage to wooden furniture by students and harsh weather conditions.
“We want this facility to serve many generations. That’s why we chose permanent concrete furniture — so students can enjoy it without worrying about breakage or deterioration,” she advised.
The MP further appealed to the students and school wardens to cultivate a sense of ownership and responsibility toward maintaining the new facility. She cautioned that carelessness and neglect often lead to the rapid deterioration of school property, undermining collective efforts to improve educational infrastructure.
“When the government and stakeholders invest in your future, it’s your duty to protect it. Handle this facility with care and respect so that those who come after you can also benefit,” she urged.
The Headmaster of Aflao Senior High School, staff, and students expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Gomashie for her leadership and continued advocacy for quality education in Ketu South. Traditional leaders and officials from the Ketu South Municipal Assembly also commended her unwavering dedication to youth development.
The commissioning of the dining hall not only honors the educational vision of the late Prof. Atta Mills but also reinforces Hon. Gomashie’s commitment to sustaining his legacy of discipline, excellence, and service through practical educational interventions.
