The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has unveiled a wide-ranging infrastructure development programme being undertaken by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government across the Volta Region, covering health, education, housing, and administrative facilities.
According to him, the projects are aimed at transforming social infrastructure, improving service delivery, and accelerating development in all Municipal and District Assemblies (MDCEs) within the region.
Hon. Gunu disclosed this during the official sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of the Ketu South Municipal Health Directorate Office Complex, spearheaded by Torgbui Tenuvi II (Mr. Felix Akonta Akakpo), at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly premises in DENU-TOKOR.
The Regional Minister revealed that the government is currently undertaking the following projects across the Volta Region:
- 36 CHPS Compounds to expand access to primary healthcare
- 24 School Dining Halls
- 40 Staff Bungalows
- 6 Three-Unit Classroom Blocks
- 15 Six-Unit Classroom Blocks
- 1 Nine-Unit Classroom Block
- 12 Twelve-Unit Classroom Blocks
- 13 Eighteen-Unit Classroom Blocks
- 12 Administration Blocks
- 12 ICT / Cyber Laboratories
- 59 Staff Bungalows (additional)
- 8 Headmaster Bungalows
- 4 Science Laboratories
- 34 Toilet Facilities
- 22 Student Hostels
He explained that the projects are strategically distributed across all districts and municipalities to ensure balanced development and equal access to social infrastructure.
Hon. Gunu stated that several schools in Ketu South Municipality are benefiting from the initiative, including:
- St. Paul’s Senior High School
- Klikor Senior High Technical School
- Aflao Senior High School
- And other public schools across the municipality
“These investments are meant to improve teaching and learning, enhance staff accommodation, promote discipline, and create a conducive academic environment,” he stressed.
The Regional Minister emphasized that the Mahama-led NDC government is determined to bridge infrastructure gaps, especially in education and health, which are critical to human capital development.
“We are focused on long-term development. Education and healthcare remain the backbone of sustainable growth, and we will continue investing heavily in these sectors,” he stated.
He called on private individuals, traditional leaders, corporate institutions, and philanthropists to complement government efforts in regional development.
Hon. Gunu concluded that the scale of infrastructure development underway signals a new chapter for the Volta Region, noting that better facilities translate into improved services, job creation, and economic growth.
