The Ketu South Municipal Assembly has postponed a scheduled stakeholders’ meeting on the proposed elevation of the Municipality to Metropolitan Assembly status.

According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Nicholas Worklachie, the decision followed the arrival of key dignitaries who opted to first engage the Paramount Chiefs of the three traditional areas within the municipality. The engagement focused on the necessity of the proposed upgrade and the long-term administrative, economic and infrastructural benefits expected from attaining metropolitan status.

Hon. Worklachie explained that the preliminary consultations with traditional authorities were necessary to ensure consensus, cultural sensitivity and inclusive decision-making before extending discussions to a wider stakeholder base.

He therefore called on stakeholders and residents of Ketu South to remain patient as the Assembly awaits feedback from the technical committee and government delegation tasked with the evaluation process.

The Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, also encouraged constituents to remain active participants in the decision-making process, describing the proposed upgrade as a collective development agenda.

She further appealed to the Paramount Chiefs and traditional councils within the municipality to draw the Assembly’s attention to any relevant issues, concerns, or perspectives that may inform the process, stressing that the voices of traditional authorities are critical to shaping sound and inclusive decisions.

The Assembly is expected to announce a new date for the stakeholders’ meeting after consultations with traditional leaders and relevant state agencies are concluded.
