The Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has procured professional film and production equipment valued over GH₵100,000 specifically to support hands-on training for young creatives in the constituency.
The equipment forms part of a structured film making and production training programme currently engaging over 50 youth, including aspiring filmmakers, actors, comedians and content creators, aimed at building practical skills in directing, cinematography, sound, lighting and production management.
According to the MP, the equipment was not purchased merely for presentation, but deliberately acquired to be used during the training sessions to ensure participants gain real industry experience.
“This is practical training. They must touch the cameras, handle the sound equipment, set lights and shoot films themselves. That is the only way to build confidence and professionalism,” Hon. Gomashie said.
The initiative is part of the Creative Arts Module of the MP’s development programmes, designed to empower youth, preserve Ewe culture and stimulate the creative economy in Ketu South, with plans to scale it up across the Volta Region.
Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker and creative director, Mr. Ivan Quashigah, Founder and CEO of Farmhouse Productions, is leading the training, guiding beneficiaries through professional film production processes and standards.
Hon. Gomashie noted that Eʋe-language films and comedy have strong local and international appeal, as the language is widely spoken across Ghana, Togo, Benin, parts of Nigeria and the diaspora, creating real economic opportunities for trained creatives.
Veteran actor Mr. Blackmoore Ayivor, on behalf of participants, expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as a rare opportunity for young talents to gain access to both equipment and expert mentorship.
“This is not theory. We are learning by doing, and that makes all the difference,” he said.
The training programme is expected to produce new Eʋe films, skits and creative content, positioning Ketu South as an emerging hub for Eʋe film production and creative excellence.
The MP Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie provided a full professional production kit including: Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera Canon EF 24–105mm and 70–200mm lenses Boom microphone, Zoom H6 recorder and headphones LED Litepanel, Aperture 300D lighting and C-Stand Tripods, reflectors, camera backpack and accessories
