The National Service Authority (NSA) has urged public and private institutions across the country to fully recognise and accept attestation letters issued to National Service Personnel (NSP), stressing that the documents are legitimate and serve as official proof of service when National Service Certificates are unavailable.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Authority expressed concern over reports that some organisations refuse to acknowledge attestation letters, particularly in situations where service personnel have misplaced their certificates or are yet to receive them.
According to the NSA, attestation letters are not issued arbitrarily but only after a thorough verification process to confirm the eligibility and service status of the individual involved. The Authority explained that under its operational procedures, attestation letters are granted only to personnel who have duly completed their national service or are in good standing.
“Attestation letters issued by the National Service Authority are valid official documents and are provided only after due verification,” the statement said, adding that the letters are meant to temporarily serve the same purpose as the National Service Certificate until the original document is retrieved or issued.
The Authority therefore called on employers, institutions and other stakeholders to accord the attestation letters full recognition and cooperation. It further advised organisations that require additional confirmation to contact the NSA through its official channels for verification.
The statement, signed by the Director-General of the National Service Authority, Mrs Ruth Dela Seddoh, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring efficient administration and regulation of the national service scheme, and expressed confidence in the support of stakeholders to uphold due process and fairness for service personnel.
