The much-anticipated stakeholder engagement between the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Energy Commission, and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) took place at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly Hall on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, following growing public concern over electricity overbilling and unreliable power supply in the municipality.
The meeting, facilitated by Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, brought together representatives from the energy sector and hundreds of affected consumers to openly discuss their challenges.
During the session, the Volta Regional Representative of the Energy Commission educated participants on energy conservation and safe electricity use, explaining how bad wiring, the use of inferior cables, and improper earthing can significantly increase power consumption and reflect as higher readings on meters. Consumers were also taught practical ways to save energy and reduce their bills through responsible socket and appliance use.

Several consumers raised allegations against some ECG staff, accusing them of overbilling and installing unauthorized meters. Others complained about frequent power disconnections despite disputed or inflated bills, which they said had made life difficult for many households.
Officials from the PURC and ECG assured residents that all complaints would be thoroughly investigated and emphasized the need for cooperation and transparency between consumers and service providers.
The engagement marks a crucial step toward restoring trust, fairness, and accountability in electricity service delivery within Ketu South and across the Volta Region.
